Abstract / Project Description

The project, “𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐤𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧,” aims to strengthen the presence of the Markaduke Native Pig, a hardy and adaptable breed known for its excellent meat quality, by establishing a dedicated breeding population in Romblon.
Romblon State University, with funding support from DOST-PCAARRD, is implementing this 3-year R&D initiative (May 2024 to April 2027). The breeding farm will be established at RSU–Agpudlos Campus, San Andres, Romblon. The initiative focuses on structured breeding, forage development, performance evaluation, and sustainability assessment to support farmers and ensure long-term productivity.
